Ancient Seers

The land of Israel is again in the spotlight of war, with the swift, past victories of 1948, 1967 and 1973 seemingly further away with each passing day. The only democratic country in the Middle East, Israel, is fighting for its survival. This current war started with murder, rape and hostages, and has now dragged on for over 400 days against enemies on all sides, including Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis, inspired and funded by Iran as the head of an “axis of evil.”

Simultaneously across the world, a nasty tide of antisemitism is exponentially, inexplicably and unequivocally on the rise again. Are these the prophesied days of “Armageddon?”

Ancient seers wrote their alarming visions on parchment, telling of a time when Jerusalem would be surrounded by armies from nations gathered from across the earth. It would be, they said, the last battle. With rape and murder as the enemy’s signature, something then extraordinary happens. Those marauding armies suddenly become fearful, fight among themselves, and finally its combatants die from an unexplained rotting disease. (See Zechariah chapter 14 for example).

At this point the Lion of the tribe of Judah returns, the long-awaited Messiah! And, those ancient seers then tell of the battle that turns in favour for a Jerusalem that will then and forever be known for its peace, security and celebration.

The source is the Holy Bible. The author and central protagonist is Jesus Christ. And you and I, whether we like it or not, are invited directly as participants into this end-of-the-age narrative! Are we awake to what is unfolding? After all, what we’re seeing is exactly what those prophets of old foretold.
